Final magazine cover

I finally managed to complete my front cover using, unorthodox methods to fill in the background. I chose to leave out the text in order to bring emphasis on the key facts, title, sub heading main body of the article. Overall i guess i am happy with it, i would have spent more time on smaller details and done some preliminary work to determine planning and methods i would use.

Photo evaluation

These two photo's were taken at home, using a brick wall as a background. I chose the bottom picture as the composition of light was more effective

Finalized, contents page

After much deliberation, i decided to crack on with my contents page without much thought for what i was doing. Decided it would be best to get it out the way rather than idle over it. In the end it turned out much better than i had anticipated, i like the used of background and the layout of text, the background in particular helps the text stand out. I wasn't willing to use an image as it would draw the attention of the readers away from the text itself, which isn't the intention. You might also notice that i have stuck to 3 fonts for my house fonts, Franklin Gothic Medium, Impact and Trajan pro. I'm not so sure about Trajan pro, i chose it originally as it was quite a formal font which suited the Lewes downs college motif however it doesn't really blend in as well as the other two font's do with each other. Considering i spent close to 20 minutes on decision making and putting the idea's to paper, I'm pretty happy with the results.

Complete front cover !

I've managed to get my front cover done, aside from the picture's which is a pretty important concept for the magazine, however i have already agreed with teacher that i will add them to my final front cover next week.

Introduction to target audience

As it is a college magazine aimed at students, i have the relevant information already and therefor research on target markets will not be necessary. The only information that would be interesting to research on would be what students like or dislike about magazine's or wheather they read them at all. This will help me decided how to utilize my magazine, examples of things that will help me include page layout, placement of articles, colour scheme, preferance of font's and size of font's. This should be relativley easy considering the amount of information currently available on the web, once i have this data i will use it effectivley in order to maxamize the appeal of my magazine.

Introduction to Task

For our initial Media AS task, we have been tasked with creating a magazine front cover and contents page in order to assess our ability. I need to include information regarding each step of the project such as, how i went about certain tasks, what techniques did i use, a history or "log" of everything i did up until the hand in date. My initial tasks are as follows.

  • Idea generation

  • Create flat plans for front cover

  • Take several photo's for front cover and contents page

Once i have these three core tasks done i can start peicing together the rest of the project in a simple manner.
